Frequently Asked Questions
When should I schedule my newborn session?
Newborns are typically photographed between 7-21 days of age. Be sure to contact me to reserve your session early. It’s never too early to book! Newborn sessions should be booked during your pregnancy, the earlier the better as I am usually booked months in advance.
How old are the newborns you typically photograph?
I prefer to photograph your newborn within the first 7-21 days. During this time, your little one still has the “curl factor”, which simply means their arms and legs curl up easily. After that time frame, your newborn will make a big jump in growth and their arms and legs will begin to stretch out more. In addition, babies tend to sleep longer and more deeply after feedings during their first few days of life. This deep sleep allows me to wrap him/her easily into blankets or move their arms and legs around without disturbing them too much. Your baby will start to become more active and will try to look around. Don’t get me wrong, after 3 weeks you can still get gorgeous images, however, the typical newborn poses most likely won’t be possible.
What if I end up delivering earlier or later than my due date, what will happen to our session date?
In order to reserve a spot on my calendar you must pay the retainer fee, then I will pencil a date down for you based off of you due date. I only photograph a limited amount of sessions per month to accommodate the various arrival dates. This means whether your little one decides to come early or late; I will do the session within day 7-21 after your baby is born, unless there is a complication and your baby has to stay in the hospital for a bit longer than normal, then we’ll do the session when you are ready.
When is the best time to take maternity portraits?
I recommend scheduling your maternity session between 28-36 weeks. During this time, you’ll have a nicely defined baby bump and be comfortably able to move between standing, sitting, and laying down poses.
How long does a newborn session last?
Newborn sessions can last up to 2-3 hours, it all depends how your little one is doing.
How should I prepare for my newborn session?
Once you are booked and on my calendar, I will email you so you can tell me your preferences for the session, like colors, poses etc you would like me to do. I will also give you tips and information on how to prepare for a smooth newborn session.
Can I add on a maternity session?
Yes, please do! I adore maternity sessions! They’re truly a special time to slow down and reflect on the big changes coming in your life. My maternity sessions take place outdoors typically on Staten Island.
Do you supply the props?
Yes, I have most things you see on my website/instagram plus a lot more. I have a huge collection of high end, international sourced hand made headbands, outfits, hats, bonnets, diaper covers, rompers and wraps, etc. Your newborn session will be fully styled based on your color scheme. You do not need to bring anything, but if you have a special family heirloom please bring it so we can incorporated during the session.
